326/365 Another twist on Looking Up

How about another twist on the Look Up theme?

Thinking of "look up" as a homonym (which itself is a fun concept), I went to one of the first places I go to answer a question or investigate something further: Google.

The fact that we reach for Google as a first resource is certainly a telling sign of the times. Whereas it used to be dictionaries and encyclopedias, we now go for the search engine. (It's just so darn handy!)

There is one specific time when I must have a hard-copy, old-fashioned dictionary on hand: while playing Scrabble. How else do you break up an argument?

  1. Scrabble ... recently, while playing Scrabble at my house (and invariably getting into an argument about some 3 letter word that may or may not have been a word), my boyfriend went to my desk for a dictionary only to be dismayed that I didn't have one!

I sometimes just google words, too. Eeek. What has happened? :)

Love yesterday's "look up" with the gaze!

  2. The dictionary I have is a big hard-bound version that I bought before my freshman year of college. I took etymology during my senior year of high school (awesome class), and the teacher recommended getting a big dictionary that included the roots of words. That wonderful tome has proven very handy in more than one Scrabble dispute!

Glad you liked yesterday's photo! That was a fun one to do. :)
